Cars with autopilot technology made by Google. Google announced that they have developed a car that can drive itself automatically on the highway. The car has already been tried in the streets around California over the last few months.
Although this project is an unusual project that Google's done, but according to some analysts, automatic cars have advantages that are very important. And so far, only one accident that occurred on the car which was hit from behind by a car driven by man as the car automatically stopped at a red light.
Since some time ago, the car was tested on the streets around California from Silicon Valley to Santa Monica. In total, 140 thousand miles distance already traveled. However, in order to maintain security, in case of sudden damage to the system, each car tested human remains boarded. One person in the driver's seat just in case, one person in the passenger seat to monitor the software via komputaer.
As quoted from Mashable, Google employs engineers who have previously participated in competitions and races involving automatic car. This step is a crucial point taken Google, which has begun to develop the technology since 2005.
One of Google's goals in the organization of this project is for the sake of traffic safety. Google sure, technology can cut half the deaths from drive because the computer should be capable of driving a vehicle better than humans, in appropriate circumstances.
Vehicles developed by Google also has the ability to react fast in a short time. In addition, the ability to monitor up to 360 degrees allows the vehicle run more tightly on the highway compared to human-driven vehicles. It is believed to reduce the length of the queue of vehicles. Computers are also more careful when stepping on the gas, thus reducing gasoline consumption.
However, the most targeted by Google with this automatic car is a time can be saved by motorists. When they were in the car, they do not have to drive. Motorists can do productive things like working through a wireless internet connection, watch television or enjoy other entertainment.
Google itself does not mention explicitly, but according to some observers, the rider has the potential to spend more time in the use of Google products or listen to the ad that was held at the Google network.
Automatic car technology is still quite far from perfect. Expected, still takes about 8 years until the car can be marketed. Not to mention the problem with the rules and laws about the traffic, which assumes that humans moving vehicle passing in the street
